What would be the mechanism behind somone having oestrogen dominant symptoms but the DUTCH test showing LOW oestrogen (like menopausal range) and normal progesterone in a perimenopausal woman who is also taking HRT (oestrogen and progesterone) ? Could it be due to fluctuating oestrogen levels during this time or maybe oestrogen being stored in the tissues like Ray Peat says?
The short answer is that estrogen-dominant symptoms don’t always mean high estrogen production. They can come from three different layers: a ratio problem, a clearance problem, or a tissue-response problem. So you can have low measured estrogen on DUTCH, especially in perimenopause, while still having estrogenic symptoms. I explain the full mechanism in the article 🌸
Fascinating and thorough explanations. Thank you! I can't believe how lazy and enept the medical system is. My doc just liked to prescribe the latest fad pill and send me on my way to the same problem, with an additional side effect. 😡
Thank you, Elle! Sadly your story is the norm, and you're describing the exact reason I write this Substack. Many of us had to become our own investigators because all they do now is prescribe pills for symptoms with zero curiosity about the cause. Glad the article was useful 🙏

Hi Linda, yes. This is exactly the paradox I wrote about here. https://notes.theracellab.com/p/low-estrogen-and-estrogen-dominant
