So the liver still makes bile but without gallbladder it just drains continuously (isn’t stored or released in pulses anymore). Keep your meals smaller, eat fats that need the least bile (saturated), obviously try to keep fat doses modest, support liver bile production (adequate protein, carbs for glycogen, eggs for choline) and take low dose TUDCA or ox bile only with meals containing fat. Btw fat tolerance is usually better earlier in the day. Nothing replace the gallbladder but symptoms can be managed this way. Good luck!
I'm a huge fan of citrus. I drink OJ and eat oranges daily and recommend them. But during the bile protocol, citrus can trigger spasms in an irritated gallbladder or bile duct. Same logic applies to chocolate and coffee.
Both stimulate cholecystokinin (CCK), which contracts the gallbladder. Normally that's a good thing. You want your gallbladder squeezing and releasing bile. But if bile is thick or there's any obstruction, forcing contractions causes pain and can worsen impaction. Coffee also speeds up intestinal motility before bile has time to properly emulsify fats. Chocolate adds theobromine on top of caffeine, so you get a stronger contractile stimulus. Once bile is flowing well again, these come back in.

I am so happy I found this. I’m recovering from years of GI issues/procedures and this is exactly what I need. Thank you so much for being so generous with this information. 🙏
this is so helpful, does lemon count as a citrus fruit? I have been doing a GAPS + ancestral carnivore diet to heal my gut.. but have been doing a squeeze of lemon on meals here and there
Can I assume that a removed gallbladder is treated as a stuck one with the addition of something like Tudca?

I’m so curious why you recommend cutting citrus & chocolate/coffee??

Yeah I'd like to hear that as well.

Got it--thanks for responding!
Thank you so much!!
